Solace is a lovely 38’ Luders-designed, double ended ketch, built by Paul Luke of East Boothbay, ME. Twice a winner of the Eggemoggin Reach Regatta, she is obviously a very good sailer.
She is a project boat for someone desiring a fast vessel capable of simple coastal cruising. Following a collision approximately 10 years ago which dismasted her, her present owner undertook a rig change from her original ketch rig to a tall sloop rig. Chain plates were altered slightly to accommodate this change and a used “bendy” aluminum mast was acquired. At this time, the cabin house was lowered several inches, considerably improving her looks. Solace awaits a new owner to either complete the conversion or put her back to her original rig. She has been well covered. The mizzen, mizzen boom, and main boom are available if the original rig were to be the choice. Solace’s interior includes a galley, quarter berth to starboard, two settees with Concordia berths above, and one pipe berth forward with toilet. Power is provided by a 25hp Westerbeke 4-99 and the electrical system is basic.
Solace is a no nonsense simple boat which needs an owner to undertake the necessary cosmetic cleaning up and rig work. The finished result won’t be disappointing.
