Built in 2001, the 28′ yawl Hope was the third of four Tern Class vessels built to this design at the G&B shop. Nat drew his inspiration for this design by the L. F. Herreshoff ketch Rocinante. With a similar profile, Hope was designed for coastal cruising and day sailing by adding about 18″ of beam, fuller sections, a larger cockpit and cabin, and close to 1,500 pounds of additional displacement. It is a yawl rig, with a gaff main and marconi mizzen.
Built with an angelique keel and steam-bent white oak frames, the canoe stern, fore keel and stem of Hope are grown (naturally curved) pieces of black locust lock-scarfed together.
Planking of Atlantic or Eastern white cedar save for the sheer-strakes and garboards which are full length wana.
All fastenings are custom cast or fabricated in bronze.
Her current listing price is $55,000
