“Wonder” was built by the Gannon and Benjamin Marine Railway in 2001 for day and coastal sailing in southern New England waters and has been maintained by Gannon & Benjamin every year.
Here’s a look at her, recently commissioned and launched into the Vineyard Haven Harbor, awaiting to be rigged for another season of sailing. Email Nat at GandB@GannonAndBenjamin.com for further details.
Her construction is traditional plank on frame with silicon bronze fastenings throughout.
The planking is Atlantic White Cedar except for sheer strakes and garboards, which are full-length tropical hardwood ‘Wana.’
Framing is steam-bent White Oak, and the centerline timbers are Angelique, Black Locust and White Oak.
The deck and cabin top are marine plywood covered with Dynel cloth.
Coamings and cabin trunks are Silverballi.
A one-cylinder Yanmar diesel is installed under the cockpit with reasonable access.
The engine and minimal 12-volt electrical system are all in good working order.
The vessel is equipped with a compass and navigation lights.
Sails, spars and rigging are all in good working order.
The hull appears very sound and the bronze fastenings are in near original condition.
This vessel is in very good condition and, with continued annual maintenance, should last many years to come.
